Jagatsinghpur, April 27 (LocalWire): There has been a delay in transporting the election materials to some booths as 15 personnel have fallen ill due to the excessive hot weather, an official said on Saturday.
The Election Commission has deployed 7,329 personnel for election duty in the final phase in Odisha on April 29. It has asked all personnel to report for duty at 7 am.
Some officials, however, have expressed reservation over the timing.
Poll officer Ashok Pradhan said that he had come to the centre at 7 am but there was no one to open it, as a result, he had to wait several hours under the scorching heat, which made him faint.
Presently, some 15 poll personnel are undergoing treatment at the Jagatsinghpur district hospital after falling ill in the heat. Condition of two officers is critical, hospital sources said.
A total of 1,047 polling booths have been set up for the fourth phase in Jagatsinghpur district.
All poll materials, including EVMs and VVPATs, are stored in the strong rooms created at the SVM College. The materials will be shifted to the respective booths before the polling day under tight security.
