Bhubaneswar, Jan 16 (LocalWire) At least 16 people were injured including 11 minors, when eight coaches of the Mumbai-Bhubaneswar Lokmanya Tilak Express train derailed near Cuttack after it hit a goods train, an official said.
The incident took place in the morning at around 7 am. Although the exact cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained, poor visibility due to dense fog could be the reason, they said.
The East Coast Railway in a statement said all the injured are out of danger. A probe has been ordered to investigate the incident.
It has also launched helpline numbers to help people to get detail of the passengers. The numbers are 18003457401, 18003457402 or 06752-1072
Rescue officials have carried out check-in all the coaches and did not find any further injured passenger, it said.
Past rail accidents in Odisha
Three Railway personnel lost their lives after the engine of the Howrah-Jagdalpur Samaleswari Express hit a maintenance tower car and caught fire on 25th June 2019 between Keutugusa and Singapur road in Rayagada district.
In yet another incident, coaches of Bhubaneswar-Secundarabad Visakha Express were detached from engine near Balugaon station on 2nd November 2019. The incident happened due to defect in locking system between the two coaches. However, all passengers were safe.
In another incident on 22 November last year, six sleeper coaches of Howrah-Yeshvantapur Duronto Express were damaged after an accident near Rupsa railway station in the Kalinga district. No casualties or injuries were however reported.
