Kendrapara, August 2 (LocalWire): National Bravery Award winner, sixteen-year-old Situ Mallick, died in a road accident in Kendrapara district today.
Situ, along with his cousin Bapi Mallick, were crushed to death when their motorbike collided with a truck at Jarimula village under Rajnagar police station.
They were returning to their village Kandia from Rajnagar. Both died on the spot.
Police seized the bodies and sent them for autopsy at the Community Health Centre, Rajnagar and are investigating the case, said Ranjan De, SDPO, Pattamundai.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik expressed shock at Situ’s death and announced an exgratia of Rs two lakh to the family members of both the boys.
Situ Mallick had received the prestigious national bravery award from the Prime Minister on Republic Day this year in recognition of his gallantry for saving the life of his 44-year-old uncle from the jaws of a salt-water crocodile by attacking the reptile with a torch and a bamboo stick.
