Berhampur, April 2 (LocalWire): BJD candidates of various constituencies in poll-bound Odisha have sought professional services of conch blowers to educate voters about its election symbol ahead of first phase polling on April 11.
Some 20,000 conch-blowers will visit different areas of the state in each phase of elections to acquaint people about BJD’s election symbol, a party leader here told LocalWire.
Berhampur and Koraput constituencies will go to polls in first phase on April 11, while the coastal seats of Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack and other districts will vote in second phase.
Krutibash Muni, who heads the conch blowers’ association Rameswara Tumula Sankhadhwai in Polasara, said that BJD candidates have hired its services for campaigning in Ganjam.
“Currently, we’re campaigning for candidates in Ganjam district, after which we’ll move to Jagatsinghpur,” said Rajendra Sahu, a conch blower from Narendrapur near here.
“We are only offering a professional service to those who need it, this is not to show out political alliance,” said Niranjan Sahu, manager of another conch blowers’ association in Narendrapur.
The conch blowers, dressed in green attires, dance and blow the shell as they move around the places to inform voters about the BJD symbol.
