Kendrapara, July 3 (LocalWire): A 23-year-old man was arrested on Friday on the charges of killing his 48-year-old drunkard father in Dhumat village.
Sale of liquor began in the state amid unlock 2.0 on Wednesday after a gap of over three months amid coronavirus pandemic for which the deceased, Kartik Mallick, drank heavily on Thursday and returned to the house in an inebriated state and started assaulting his wife.
When his son Ramachandra tried to stop him, Kartika also abused him for which, in a sudden rage, Ramachandra assaulted his father with a wooden plank.
Karthik sustained serious injuries on his head and lost consciousness.
He was rushed to the government hospital at Kendrapara on Wednesday night where doctors declared him brought dead, said the IIC of Nikirei police station, Kabuli Barik.
After coming to know of the incident, police rushed to the village on Friday morning and seized the body.
“We have filed a case under Section 302 (Murder) against the accused, Ramachandra Mallick. Investigation in the case is on, added the police officer.
“Unchecked flow of illicit liquor has started wreaking havoc with the people of our area and following this, anti-social activities have increased in the locality,” alleged Binayak Mallick, a villager.
