Berhampur, Sept 18 (LocalWire): The 24-hour coastal security exercise, Sagar Kavach, began today off the Ganjam coast.
Six platoons of forces, several police officers, homeguards were deployed in the massive exercise in the 60-km-long coastal area, consisting of Berhampur and Ganjam police districts.
The exercise started at around 8 a.m. and will end at 8 a.m. on Thursday, sources said.
Forces would be conducting an anti-terror mock drill in the sea.
‘The exercise is aimed at preparing the coastal security in our region and the forces have conducted the mock drill in the sea,’ said SP (Ganjam) Brijesh Rai.
The exercise is not only off Ganjam coast, but conducted in all the coastal areas across the country on the same day.
Multiple agencies, including Indian Navy, Coast Guard, police and the state forest department have also joined in the exercise, sources added.
