Bhubaneswar, July 21 (LocalWire): Close to 2400 transgender community members have now approached the state government seeking financial assistance from the government.
This comes after the recent announcement of the state government to include transgender under the state scheme of Madhu Babu Pension Yojana (MBPY) by amending the eligibility criteria of the scheme guidelines
“Close to 2400 members from the transgender community have registered with the department for availing benedfits under the scheme after the notification was published on July 16,” said an official from the department of social security and empowerment of persons with disabilities.
The new government norms for the community said that the beneficiaries should have certificate issued under Section 6 of the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act 2019.
Applicants not exceeding the income of Rs 40,000 per annum and not having any members of their family paying income tax or government servant could be benefited under the scheme.
