Bhubaneswar, Mar 31 (LocalWire): The Railway Board in New Delhi has now asked the East Coast Railway (ECoR) to convert 261 railway coaches into isolation wards.
The decision has come forward to boost the preparedness of the government to tackle COVID 19 cases.
The zonal office which got the instructions from the board on March 25 has now swung into action.
According to sources in the department, the isolation wards will be made at five places under ECoR.
The retrofitting and creation of such railway wards will be made in-Bhubaneswar, Puri, Sambalpur, Mancheshwar and Vishakhapatnam.
Officials at ECoR told LocalWire that works have already started into this direction and prototypes are in final stages.
Mechanical engineers and their teams at Mancheswar workshop have started redesigning the old railway coaches into isolation wards as per the guidelines given by the Railway Board.
