Cuttack, July 24 (LocalWire): Three road dwellers, here, have been allegedly bludgeoned to death in the past 24 hours and sent police in a tizzy.
A suspected psychopath seems to be on the prowl baying for blood forcing the commissionerate of police to constitute a special squad to crack the crime and put the assailant behind bars, police said.
Three people, all either beggars or daily wage earners, were murdered by the suspected killer in Ranihat, OMP Chowk and Mangalabag locality of the city. The killer used blunt and sharp objects to author the murder.
‘All the three victims were homeless and slept on the pavements and fell easy prey to the killing spree,’ said Police commissioner (Cuttack and Bhubaneswar) Satyajit Mohanty.
‘It appears to be the handiwork of a serial killer who is apparently undergoing bouts of serious mental disorder.
The manner of the killing and the targets picked by the accused to execute the murder all lead us to believe the psychopath and serial killer’s act in the gruesome violence of this nature,’ Mohanty said.
‘Before jumping into any definite conclusion, we studied the crimes of this nature committed in the past in others places both in the state and outside.
Besides, the material evidence gathered from the crime spots by the scientific teams has drawn us to serial killing theory perpetrated by a psychopath,’ he added.
Police have undertaken a drive to shift the homeless people, who used to sleep either on pavements or abandoned houses, to safer locations like short stay home for destitute people.
Night patrolling has also been beefed up to avert recurrence of this kind of crime.
