Bhubaneswar, Dec 26 (LocalWire): As many as 40 women activists of Odisha congress were taken on preventive arrest while trying to barge into agriculture minister Pradeep Maharathy’s government quarters here on Thursday condemning his irresponsible statement on the sensational Pipili gang rape verdict, said police.
“Around 40 women activists were taken into preventive custody before trying to barge into agriculture minister’s residence and released later,” said additional commissioner Sanjay Singh.
Odisha Pradesh Mahila Congress activists were trying to hurl tomatoes and eggs at the minister’s government quarters demanding apology for his comment.
The women activists staged demonstration holding brooms in front of his government residence of the minister and demanded his resignation.
The protesters scuffled with police personnel when police tried to disperse the crowd.
Notably, the Bhubaneswar Additional District Judge Court had acquitted prime accused Prashant Pradhan and his brother Sukant Pradhan on December 24 due to lack of evidence hearing a 2011 sensational gang-rape case.
A 19-year-old girl od Arjungoda village of Pipili in Puri district had gone into come after allegedly being gang-raped.
Commenting on the judgement, local MLA Maharathy had hailed the court’s verdict and said truth has finally prevailed.
