Kendrapara, Dec 2 (LocalWire): The police today arrested a 40-year-old man on charges of raping a 9-year-old girl at a village under Derabish police station limits in Odisha’s Kendrapara district.
The minor girl was returning home from a private tutor when the motorcycle-borne accused Chaturbhuj Sethy offered offered to drop her home luring her with potato chips. The unsuspecting victim fell prey to Sethy’s trap, who was known to the victim’s family.
Instead of dropping her home, he took her to a deserted spot in the village and raped her. The victim later narrated the ordeal to her mother.
Acting on the complaint, police arrested the man from a neighbouring village, said Sub Divisional Police Officer, Rajib Lochan Panda.
A medical examination was today conducted on both the victim and the accused. Later, police forwarded the accused to the local court under Sections 376(rape) , 506 (criminal intimation) of Indian Penal Code and Section 6 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012. He was later remanded to judicial custody after his bail plea was rejected, Panda added.
Sexual abuse of minor girls have shot up of late, triggering state-wide furoreand stalling of the state Assembly on several occasions.
The offenders in most cases were either known to the victims or are people living in the neighbourhood, according to police officials.
