Berhampur, June 14 (LocalWire): In Luhangar, a tribal-dominated rural village in Gajapati district’s Nuagada block, one can see all the villagers wear the mask-one of the main weapons to fight against Covid-19.
Over 430 residents of the village including women and children folk are seen wearing masks.
Luhangar is one of the villages that has been declared as the “Sampurna Mask Gaon” by the district administration after Gajapati collector Anupam Saha reviewed the use of the mask situation in the village on Wednesday.
He has also interacted with the villagers about the use of the mask.
“We are happy as the rural villagers are aware of the benefits of the use of masks,” said collector.
Like Luhangar, 465 out of total 1534 villages in Gajapati district have been declared as the “Sampurna Mask Gaon” so far.
The rest of the villages are also expected to join the league by the end of the current month so that Gajapati can be declared a “Total mask district,” sources said.
In a bid to ensure the wearing of masks by all the residents to keep away from the Covid-19, Gajapati administration has launched the “Sampurna Mask Gaon” campaign from May 2.
Our object is to make Gajapati a “Sampurna Mask District” where all people will ensure to wear masks, which is one of the major tools to protect oneself from the killer virus,” said collector.
The masks are being produced by the members of the 110 women self-help groups across the district with the active support from the Odisha Livelihood Mission (OLM) and Mission Shakti in a massive manner.
Around four lakh masks are expected to be produced by the WSHG in the district. So far, they have produced around 3 lakh masks. Of them they have already sold over 2 lakhs sources said.
The campaign has helped the WSHG members to earn from selling the masks during the pandemic, said collector.
