Rourkela, Dec 12 (LocalWire) A 50-year-old man was allegedly killed in an elephant attack here, the police said on Wednesday.
According to reports, an elephant, supposedly separated from its herd, had entered Saldega village early Wednesday.
At about 12.15 am, the tusker had reportedly damaged the house of Nusa Oram and had attacked him, following which he had died on the spot. His wife had a narrow escape.
A team of forest officials reached the village later in the morning and recovered his body.
“After conducting autopsy, we handed over the body to his family,” said Tamda forest range officer PK Sethi.
“We handed over Rs. 50,000 to his family members as an advance amount towards compensation. The remaining Rs. 3.5 lakh will be paid to them after completion of formalities,” he said.
Pertinently, on Dec 1, this same elephant had allegedly killed Chandiposh villager Sukadeb Patra (40).
