Cuttack, April 7 (LocalWire): The 56th National Maritime Day was observed here, coinciding with 100 years of first sailing of the ship S.S. Loyalty from Mumbai to London on April 5, 1919, the organizers said here on Sunday.
To mark the occasion, a function was organised by the members of Seafarers’ Association of Odisha, an association of sailors, Forum for River & Ocean, an Odisha-based think-tank and the Maritime Museum.
Various events such as seminar, quiz and painting competitions were held at the museum complex here. Sailors from merchant navy, Indian navy, marine engineers and shipping industry experts participated.
Prizes and mementos were distributed to the winners of the competitions.
Vice Admiral (Retd.) Harilal Sharma, Capt. Navin Sharma, SAO president S.C. Mishra, Capt. Alok Patra and Ex-DDG Dr. Purnendu Mishra were among the eminent guests at the function.
