Berhampur, Jan 27 (LocalWire): Six persons have been arrested on charges of duping people promising to provide cooking gas agency license in Ganjam district, police said on Sunday.
Impersonating themselves as higher officers of different oil companies, have allegedly duped around five lakh from two persons in Hinjili area in the last eight months with fake promises of providing cooking gas agency license.
Police busted the racket and arrested Manoj Satapathy(42), Bidyadhara Panda(43), Ramesh Patra (44), Krushna Chandra Biswal(35) of Berhampur, Basant Kumar Sahu(40) of Aska and Jibitesh Mohanty (35) of Cuttack on Saturday.
Some fake letters of BJP, cash receipt book, fake letter pads of different union ministers, including oil minister Dharmendra pradhan and a car have been seized from their possession, said Hinjili police station IIC Prasant Kumar Sahoo.
Police launched an investigation following two different FIRs lodged by Ajit Sabat of HInjili and Chandra Sekhar Sabat of Saru and busted the racket.
While the accused had taken Rs 3.80 lakh from Ajit to provide gas agency in the name of his mother Basanti Sabat, they had allegedly duped around Rs one lakh from Chandra Sekhar, police said.
