Berhampur, Sept 25 (LocalWire): Crime against minors refuse to die down as reports of six teenagers being raped in six separate incidents came to light from Ganjam and Kandhamal districts.
Police arrested two people from Baliguda in Kandhamal and Purushottampur in Ganjam.
19-year-old school dropout Dasarath Mallick was arrested from Parampanka village for impregnating a 17-year-old student of a government-run-residential school after raping her four months ago.
Her pregnancy was detected during the regular health check-up of boarders on 19 September, police said.
The headmaster-cum-superintendent of the school, managed by the government’s scheduled caste and scheduled tribe welfare department, lodged an FIR after they came to know of her pregnancy.
During counseling, the Class X student revealed the accused’s name, who happens to be her distant relative, inspector in charge, Baliguda, PK Behera, said. The statement of the victim was also recorded before a magistrate, he said.
In another case, police arrested a 20-year old auto driver of Singipur for allegedly raping a Class VIII student at her house on 12 September.
Purna Chandra Behera entered the house of the 13-year-old when her parents were away at work and threatened her at knife point and raped her.
The victim narrated the incident to her parents the next day. She along with her parents lodged an FIR at Purushottampur police station.
‘We registered the case and have also arrested the accused based on the FIR,’ said inspector in charge, Purushottampur, Jagannath Mallick.
In two other rape incidents that came to fore four days ago, police arrested two men from Belaghar and Chhatrapur police station limits in Kandhamal and Ganjam districts respectively for raping minors. One of the girls is now eight months pregnant.
Similarly, on 6 September, two people were arrested for raping minor girls in two separate incidents in Tikabali and Raikia police station limits of Kandhamal district.
