Berhampur, February 18 (LocalWire): As many as 650 candidates appeared in the University Research Entrance Test (URET) conducted on Sunday by Berhampur University for admission into the one-year and three-year courses of M.Phil and PhD, a senior University official said on Monday.
A total 748 students had applied for the test.
The PhD aspirants were however disappointed as the university cancelled PhD admissions for subjects including History, Industrial Relations and Personnel Management (IR&PM), Electronic Science, Business Administration, Journalism and Mass Communication (J&MC) and Law due to non-availability of guides in these departments.
‘The availability of PhD slots were mentioned subject wise in the prospectus as per the availability of the guides and guideline of the University Grants Commission (UGC),” post-graduate council chairman DP Patnaik told LocalWire.
The University had been criticized earlier for conducting the test for admission into PhD courses without having eligible research supervisor in different subjects.
