Berhampur, Feb 13 (LocalWire):A 75-year old deaf and dumb woman from Odisha’s Ganjam District is all set to enter the Guinness Book of World Records owing to a total of 12 fingers and 19 toes.
A person with disability, Kumari Nayak of Kadapada village under Polasara block’s Kalamba Panchayat is about to break the previous record of Devendra Sutar from Gujarat who has 14 fingers and 14 toes.
Kumari lives in a privately managed old-age home at Hatiota village in Buguda Block for she was abandoned by her family.
“We had no idea about it. We came to know about it from the social media that she will enter into the Guinness World Records for having the maximum number of fingers and toes in the world,” said the manager of the old age-home, Chatrubhuja Pattanaik.
Sources told LocalWire that Kumari was admitted to the old age home on August 14, 2019. Earlier, she used to beg here and there. The children of the area very often abused and called her a witch due to her abnormality. She has six fingers in each hand, while ten and nine toes in the left and right foot respectively.
After she was admitted here, several district level officers including Collector Vijay Amruta Kulange visited her to inspect her condition. The local MLA visited the old age home frequently, Pattanaik said.
“She was admitted here by MLA Srikant Sahu after some people drew his attention towards her plight,” said Pattanaik.
“We have tried to teach her basic activities such as wearing clothes, combing her hair and eating timely. Now, she is in a much better condition and even happy with other members over here,” he added.
As many as 30 people live in the old age home at present. Since she is deaf and dumb, she only expressed herself using sign language.
