Berhampur:Feb 24 Localwire: Berhampur district Police have engaged 86 college-going students as the student traffic volunteers (STV) in the Silk City.
“After a 6-day training programme, the students will be engaged in traffic duty”, said DSP (traffic) Sarthak Ray.
The students are from Under Graduate and Post Graduate courses from various colleges in and around Berhampur, he said.
Berhampur Police district first engaged STV in January 2018, with inducting 100 students in traffic duty in the city after the government introduced the system.
‘We have reviewed their performance from July 1, 2019 to December 31, 2019 and disqualified 86 of them” said the DSP (traffic).
During the review, he said they have found most of the STV had already passed out from the colleges, long absent on their duties etc.
“The STVs will be doing their duty for three hours per day. Each of them will get Rs 100 as remuneration for duty”, said DSP.
Besides the traffic signals, they have also been trained on how to behave with people during duty, said DSP.
