Berhampur, August 19 (LocalWire): Over 974 kg ganja, transported in a truck in 37 bags covered with corn and ragi, was seized by police near Golagandapalli, on National Highway 16 under Ganjam district’s Rambha police station limits on Sunday.
The seized contraband was worth around Rs 90 lakh in the open market, police said today.
Two people, including the driver of the vehicle, were arrested under the NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) Act, said SP (Ganjam), Brijesh Ray.
Police seized the vehicle on National Highway after specific information about the smuggling of the narcotic substance, said sub divisional police officer, Chhatrapur Utkal Keshari Das.
‘The accused did not disclose their destination but we suspect the contraband was being transported from Lankagada in Koraput district and taken towards Bhubaneswar,’ said inspector in-charge, Rambha police station, Krushna Chandra Sethi.
