Berhampur, Oct 13 (LocalWire): Ten people were arrested today for extracting a 55-year-old man’s tooth and forcing him to consume human excreta at Jhada Sahi in Ganjam district, about 80-km from here four days ago. They suspected him of practicing witchcraft.
The accused have been arrested and forwarded to court after the victim Sudam Nayak complained to police on Friday, said SDPO Bhanjanagar, SS Mishra.
Mishra said the accused, who are distantly related to the victim, suspected him of practicing black magic and behind the death of 20-year old Chandan Nayak, a fortnight ago.
He tried to flee the village and took shelter in one of his relatives’ house at Bhanjanagar. Next day, he lodged a complaint with the police against the accused, police said.
‘We will arrest some other people who are allegedly involved in the attack,’ the SDPO said.
It was the second sorcery-related incident in the district in the last ten days. Police arrested 35 people from Gopapur village in Khallikote police station for allegedly pulling out the teeth and forcibly feeding human excreta to six elderly people in the district suspecting they practice witchcraft.
