Berhampur, August 12 (LocalWire): Hundreds of underprivileged patients in the tribal-dominated Kandhamal on Sunday got free health consultancy, medicines and normal blood tests by the specialists at the health camps held in 20 different places here.
A brainchild of Kandhamal Lok Sabha MP Achyutananda Samanta, the free health camp was organised by the Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS), Bhubaneswar in all twenty blocks headquarter towns of his parliamentary constituency, spreading across the three adjoining districts of Kandhamal, Boudh, and part of Nayagarh.
Around 300 doctors, para-medical and other support staffs of KIMS treated the patients in each camp throughout the day.
“Such free health camp will be held on the last Sunday of every month in each block headquarter towns in the constituency.
Besides a mega health camp will also be held at district headquarter town every month, where experts will treat the patients,” the MP said.
The doctors and specialists of different departments will come to attend the camp and treat the patients in the district every month.
“We hope the people of the region will be benefited by the initiative,” he said and appealed to the people to benefit from this.
The initiative driven solely by Samant, without any government support, assumes significance as people living in the remote areas of the district are derived from the healthcare facilitates due to the lack of doctors in several periphery hospitals run by the government.
“It’s a noble idea and number of people, especially tribal people from the rural village will benefit from the camps,” senior advocate SP Tripathy said.
