Acid attacker gets 5 years jail term
Berhampur, September 26 (Local Wire) A local court here on Wednesday sentenced a person for five years Rigorous Imprisonment for throwing acid on the face of a 23-year old girl around 8 years ago.
Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Pranati Saha slapped Rs 5000 fine to the accused person Gobardhan Mishra, aged 36, of Bila Sahi in the case.
In case, the accused person fails to pay the fined amount, then he would get another three months RI.
The court also ordered for payment of compensation to the acid attack victim. The amount would be decided by the district legal aid services, said associate public prosecutor (APP) Rajendra Kumar Sabat.
The court convicted the accused person after hearing the witnesses of six persons, he said.
Sources said the accused had thrown acid to the 23-year old girl, near a school at Nilakantheswar Nagara under Goshaninuagaon police on February 12, 2010, while she was returning a temple.
He had attacked the girl due to the previous enmity.
