Bhubaneswar, Mar 17 (Local Wire): The East Coast Railway (ECoR) has now started equipping important railway stations in their region with thermal scanners to screen passengers for Coronavirus.
This comes after the state government made the screening of airline passengers at airports in Odisha mandatory.
The zonal office of the railway department Monday in a review meeting chaired by the General Manager instructed all the Divisional Railway Managers (DRMs) in their zone to ensure all important railway stations in the region like Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Sambalpur and other rope in thermal scanners to scrutinize the passengers for the viral disease.
“Infra-Red thermometers for thermal screening will be made available at all important stations handling a large number of passengers. DRMs of Khurda Road, Sambalpur and Waltair have been advised to follow instructions on the issue,” an official from the Public Relations Department of ECoR said.
The railway department meanwhile also assured the persons travelling through trains that it is undertaking massive disinfection drive to thwart the chances of spread of the viral disease through this public mode of transport.
“Special emphasis on dis-infection of trains coaches and toilets is being taken. Staff coming in contact with passengers at mass contact areas like booking and reservation offices are specially being sensitized. Same with Train Travelling Ticket Examiners (TTEs),” the department said in a media statement.
