Kendrapara, June 6 (LocalWire): Nearly 48 hours after palpable tension between two communities, the situation in this eastern Odisha town is fast returning to normal.
Tension mounted in the town and its nearby areas, last two days, after a youth was attacked by some persons from a minority community in Badahat locality within the town.
In another incident, a girl belonging to a minority community was molested by a shop owner.
The incident led to tension between the communities. Police have arrested two persons in connection with the incidents after the clash between the groups.
According to reports, the situation in Kendrapara town and its nearby areas is fast returning to normalcy with shops reopening and locals returning to their routine life.
The district administration has also set up a peace committee to maintain communal harmony in the area.
“Elderly people and other distinguished persons from both communities in Kendrapara have been included in the peace committee. Ten platoons of police have also been deployed and security forces are continuing to keep vigil in the town, including in all sensitive areas,” informed Kendrapara sub- collector Sanjay Mishra.
The authorities had also suspended internet services for two days, beginning Wednesday evening, as a precaution to check the spread of provocative posts and photographs.
