Deogarh, July 7 (LocalWire): To raise public awareness and curb rising alcoholism among the young population in the area, the local police has started a special campaign here.
According to a senior police officer Kalicharan Majhi, the police have put in place a dedicated van for patrolling the city to detain youth found drinking and to help them overcome alcoholism.
The patrolling was ordered by Deogarh superintendent of police (SP) on Thursday last and a Bolero and a mini truck have been making rounds in the cities with a banner that has ‘Alcoholic Catching Vehicle’ written on it.
“The police detained at least four people on the first day, while few more were caught the next day.
They were released after they turned sober and with a warning against consuming alcohol in the future,” he informed.
Speaking to the LocalWire, Majhi informed that the local police decided to take up the initiative following frequent road accidents caused by drunk young drivers.
