Cuttack, Nov 16 (LocalWire): The 3rd edition of All India Police Judo Cluster-2018 was inaugurated on Thursday at Reserve Police Ground, Buxibazar, in Cuttack.
This tournament is being organised for the first time by Odisha Police. Odisha Sports Minister Chandra Sarathi Behera was the Chief Guest and took the ceremonial salute.
In his speech, the minister suggested Odisha Police and DGP, Odisha to host the All India Police Athletic championship in future days and he assured all kind of support from the state government. Odisha DGP Dr. R.P.Sharma attended the programme as Guest of Honour.
He advised the participants to play the game in true sprit of sportsmanship. The event is being organised at two venues of Cuttack city – J.N.Indoor Stadium and Sachin Tendulkar Indoor Hall in Barabati Stadium – from Nov 15-19.
As many as 1200 players and 300 officials and trainers from 33 teams, consisting of Central Para Military Forces and State Police Organisations are participating in this mega sporting event.
These teams will compete in four events, namely, Judo, Gymnastics, Taekwondo and Wushu.
The championship is being organised under the guidance of ‘All India Police Sports Control Board’.
The Mascot for the Asian Athletics Championship and World Cup Hockey ‘Olly’ has been taken as the Mascot of this event as well. Olly is Odisha’s rare species of Olive Ridley turtle.
Players and officials have been accommodated in different locations of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar city.
A Control Room is functioning (24×7) at State Police Headquarters from Nov 7 for better co-ordination.
Similarly, Sub-Control Rooms have started functioning at J.N.Indoor Stadium and Barabati Stadium from Nov 10.
The closing function of the programme will be held on Nov 19 at Reserve Police Ground, Buxibazar, Cuttack.
Intelligence Bureau Special Director Arabind Kumar will be the Chief Guest on the occasion.
