Bhubaneswar, Sept 3 (LocalWire): The State Cabinet on Wednesday decided to do away with multiple legislations on governance of universities.
Chief Secretary Asit Tripathy on Wednesday said that the State Cabinet has decided to govern all state-run universities under one single Odisha Universities Act, 1989.
The Cabinet meanwhile also decided to enhance the tenure of all the Vice Chancellors from the existing three years to four years with the upper age limit upto 67 years.
The Cabinet also resolved to entrust upon the Odisha Public Service Commission (OPSC) the task of selection of teachers for the universities. At the same time recruitment of non-teaching staff will be handled by the State Selection Board (SSB).
The universities now have also been asked not to furnish their audit reports for Assembly but publish the same on their university website.
According to the Cabinet note, it has also approved the law department’s proposal for amendment of the Odisha Advocates’ Welfare Fund Act 1987 through an ordinance.
