Cuttack, Dec 7 (LocalWire): Elephants and deer damaged crops across 323.97 acre land in the last three years in six ranges under Cuttack forest division, the forest department said on Friday.
Compensation of Rs 32,20,000 has been given to 1076 families for crop loss, said a forest official.
Crops on at least 23.86 hectors of land of 55 families were destroyed by elephant herds by the end of November this year.
Two persons, each from Choudwar and Jajpur, were reportedly killed in elephant and bear attacks.
The department has provided compensation of Rs 2,58,600 after investigation into incidents of crop loss and life.
However, families of the two deceased have been given compensation of Rs 40,000 each since the final investigation report has not been submitted yet.
