Berhampur, October 7 (Local Wire) Security forces intensified combing operation on Saturday in
Khamanakhol jungle under Kandhamal district’s Baliguda police station after busting a Maoist camp in the jungle on the previous day.
At least 30 Maoists managed to escape from the spot before the raid. Police suspected the Maoists might be hiding in the nearby jungle.
Combing operation was carried out jointly by the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Special Operation Group (SOG) and district volunteer force (DVF), said Prateek Singh, superintendent of police (Kandhamal).
Acting on a tip, security forces raided near Khamanakhol forest areas to bust the Maoist camp.
Security forces seized several belongings of the Maoists, including uniform, literature, ration items, medicines from the spot.
Several explosive items and transistor sets were also seized.
Police suspected the Maoists suspected to prepare the blueprint for a major incident in the area.
The Maoists belonging to Andhra Pradesh and Chhatisgarh and members of the Kandhamal-Kalahnadi, Boudh, Nayagarh (KKBN) committee of CPI (Maoist) might be in the camp, police said.
‘We will verify whether any rebel involved in killing the two Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leaders, including a sitting MLA of the party in Andhra Pradesh was presented in the camp,” said the police officer.
After the killing incident in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh, police suspected there was a possibility for the Maoist gang to spread into splinter groups and sneak into the different parts of
Odisha state’s southern districts, infested by the Maoists, including Kandhamal.
