Bhubaneswar, Dec 19 (LocalWire): Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) and Bhubaneswar Smart City Limited (BSCL) in partnership with German Development Cooperation (GIZ) developed an app, ‘Mu City Savior’ that will help residents of the capital by minimising the impact of urban flooding.
As continuously monitoring and maintenance of all drainage network manually is difficult without the support of citizens, the digital solution is being implemented in the project areas of Nayapalli and Shatabdi Nagar so that the pilot project, based on information communication technology (ICT) solution, is ready by next monsoon.
The digital solution will allow citizens to report the current status of identified points in drains and collect three facts from citizens like whether there is any garbage in drains, what is the water level in drains and how is the water flow in drains.
The information will go to the analytical system directly, where it will get analyzed and sent to city officials with a priority list on real-time basis which they can act on accordingly to keep the drains clean to reduce the impact of urban flooding.
Obstruction in drains due to direct disposal of solid waste exaggerates during monsoon due to the high volume of runoff water.
Therefore, it is important to continuously monitor the drains so that, during monsoon, the drains can accommodate extra volume of runoff water.
