Jajpur, Nov 21 (LocalWire): Residents of Ramapur village under Bari block of Jajpur district on Tuesday organized an arati (ritual of worship) on the banks of polluted Bramahani to highlight the problems of the river.
“We organised Bramahani Arati on the holy month of Kartika to create awareness among the people to save the river as the government has failed to check water pollution, ” said Manas Ranjan Mishra, convener of Jalaberadar.
He said industrial units in Kalinganagar areas of the district discharge polluted water containing hazardous chemicals into river, which eventually contaminates the groundwater.
The polluted water discharged by the industrial units have damaged the standing crops, including vegetables and paddy in the region. Even the cattle, who drink water from the creeks and river Bramahani, die due to the presence of poisonous chemicals in the water, said Manas Ranjan Mishra.
