Baripada, September 23 (LocalWire): The district authorities have suspended an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) on charges of hit and run, and drunken driving.
According to sources, the ASI Suvendu Behera was on his way from Kaptipada towards Baripada town in his private car when he hit two youths traveling on a bike near a petrol outlet between Kapitada and Udala road.
While he tried to flee from the accident site, without stopping and rescuing the injured, he could not move further as his car hit a pole at a short distance.
The locals overpowered him and found him in an inebriated state.
The incident ensued scuffle between him and the irate locals, but he was rescued by the local police.
While the injured persons have been admitted in the hospital, Behera has been suspended pending departmental proceedings, a police source said, adding that a case under section 279, 337, 378, 185 of MV Act has been registered by the Uadla police.
According to Udala sub-divisional police officer SR Mahapatra, “The ASI was suspended soon after the incident by the superintendent of police. He would be presented in the court today. The sections under rash and reckless driving and drunk driving have been invoked against him.”
