Berhampur, November 6 (LocalWire): The Odisha Assembly committee on Woman and Child Welfare inspected Anganwadi centers in Ganjam district on Tuesday.
During their two-day visit, the committee members examined the quality of chhatua, the nutritional food served to the children.
They also held discussions with the women self-help groups and inmates of Utkal Balashram, a government recognised childcare.
The panel also reviewed the implementation of different programmes implemented by the Woman and Child Welfare Department.
“The quality of chhatua was good,” Committee chairperson Usha Devi said.
The committee members also expressed satisfaction about the initiatives of women SHGs who have undertaken different profit-making businesses, including fishing.
At Beguniapada, the members of the SHGs explained the nuances of their business to the committee members.
“During our interaction with the inmates at childcare institute and observation home for girls, we came to know that several of the girls were staying there because of their parents refused to accept them due to various reasons,” Devi said.
She added that there was a need for the authorities to discuss the matter with their parents and send them back home.
“We will place our detailed observations and suggestions in the House,” she stated.
