Bhubaneswar, Dec 25 (LocalWire): Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan today unveiled a bronze statue of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on the occasion of his 95th birth anniversary at AIIMS here, in the presence of Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
The foundation stone of AIIMS was laid by Vajpayee in 2003.
Vardhan also requested Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to implement the Ayushman Bharat health insurance scheme in the state so that poor people are not deprived of quality health care.
The proposal was earlier rejected by the BJD-led government as the Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana is already implemented in the state.
Vardhan added that six district headquarters hospitals will be developed into government medical colleges while there plans are afoot to add two more medical colleges in two districts as proposed by the state government.
The Union ministers also unveiled the plaque of dedication of modular operation theatre (MOTs) and inaugurated CATH-LAB and DFR (Fluoroscopy) at the premier hospital.
BJP MP Aparajita Sarangi, BJD MP Dr Amar Patnaik, BJD MP Anubhav Mohanty and Congress MLA Suresh Routray were present at the unveiling ceremony.
