Bhubaneswar, October 5 (LocalWire): The Odisha government has earned Rs 5.45 crore from the online auction of fancy and preferred vehicle registration numbers during the first half of the current fiscal.
According to the State Transport Authority Odisha, while Rs 1.07 crore came from the auction of fancy numbers, it also earned Rs 4.38 crore as advance booking amount for vehicle registration numbers by owners of 5,389 vehicles.
The Regional Transport Office (RTO), Bhubaneswar-I collected the highest revenue of Rs 1.04 crore, followed by Rs 63 lakh collection of RTO Cuttack, and Rs 46 lakh by ARTO Barbil.
The transport department had introduced an online booking facility for fancy registration numbers and advance registration numbers since June 2016.
Those intending to participate in the online auction have to register their name and select the number of their choice during the bid registration period from the 1st to 7th of each month.
The online bidding is open from 8th to 15th of the month and the highest bidder is allotted the number.
The owners can book the number of their choice other than the fancy numbers in advance through the month on a first-come-first-serve basis at Rs 5,000 for two-wheelers, and Rs 10,000 for other vehicles.
