Berhampur, September 30 (LocalWire): The Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC) has started to conduct hygiene and food quality audit at hotels and restaurants in the Silk City.
The initiative is aimed at ensuring that the hospitality sector maintains the required standards, particularly keeping in view the tourist season during Dussehra.
The BeMC is conducting the audit with support from the students of the National Institute of Science and Technology (NIST).
At least four students of NIST and two staff sanitary inspectors of the civic body have been assigned the task to check the hygiene conditions of different hotels and restaurants.
“The students are also collecting food samples from these establishments that will be tested in the laboratory of their institute,” BeMC commissioner Chakravarti Singh Rathore said.
He further informed that NIST students have offered their free service since the civic body does not have sufficient technical persons to conduct the hygiene audit.
“In the run-up to Dusshera, a number of people are likely to visit Silk City, which is one of the major commercial hubs in South Odisha.
They will stay in hotels and restaurants during the period.
The hotels and restaurants need to maintain proper sanitation and supply quality foods to their customers,” he said.
