Jajpur, March 4 (LocalWire): The district administration here on Wednesday clamped prohibitory order at Bichakhani, Arua and Rahalapur villages under Dharmasala Tehasil in Jajpur district and dismantled 20 illegal stone- crusher units.
The drive began after the forest and environment department directed the district administration to close all the pollution causing illegal stone crusher units.
On Wednesday, 20 illegal crusher units were sealed by a special task force.
“The police have been directed to guard all the units,” said Mihir Mohanty the Additional District Magistrate (ADM) of Jajpur.
Many locals expressed happiness by the news of sealing illegal stone crusher units.
Most of the villagers have developed breathing-related diseases due to poisonous gases released by the units.
“Stone crushing is a major polluting industry. It causes large scale air, water and noise pollution.
The brutal destruction of hills by stone quarry mafias in these areas is also an issue which needs immediate attention of the highest judiciary, government, media and environmentalists,” said Amar Biswal, a social worker of the district.
Last year, a prohibitory order of section-144 of Criminal Procedure Code at Dankari and Rahadapur hillocks under Dharmasala Tehasil was imposed to stop the illegal stone- quarry works.
