Bhubaneswar, Feb 6 (LocalWire):Doctors at AYUSH (Ayurveda, Homeopathy, Unani, Siddha and Yoga & Naturopathy) Hospitals are on a strike at Lower PMG Square, Bhubaneswar demanding regularization of their posts.
The protesters have reportedly warned of continuing the strike for indefinite period of time if their demands are not met.
As many as 628 mobile units running across the state have been out of service due to this strike.
The doctors have organised a mass protest at Bhubaneswar’s Gandhimarg during Rashtriya Bal Swashthya Karyakram (RBSK).
“Since 2013, more than 700 doctors of AYUSH Hospitals have been working on contractual basis,” complained one of the protesters. “But the doctors are being paid only Rs 21,924 which is less than a Group-D employee salary.”
“No measures are being taken for the regularization of the doctors,” said a protesting AYUSH doctor.
“A representative met Odisha Health Minister Pratap Jena and discussed the issue; but the meeting was a failure,” said Dr. Sushil Kumar Mahapatra, president of the protesting doctors’ association.
