Puri, July 12 (LocalWire): Lakhs of devotees have thronged to Puri for darshan of the Holi Trinity, as, after the nine days’ stay at Gundicha temple, they are preparing to return to Srimandir today.
Devotees can pay their tributes to Lord Jagannath and his siblings Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra and his weapon Sudarshan Chakra while they leave Mausi Maa temple after nine days on chariots.
The Mangalarpana ritual of Bahuda Jatra, concluded early morning followed by the Pahandi ritual – amidst the chiming of bells and beating of the cymbals. The servitors escorted Lord Balabhadra to his chariot first and then Devi Subhadra followed by Lord Jagannath.
Puri Gajapati, Dibyasingha Deb conducted the chera pahara or sweeping the three chariots with a gold-handled broom and sprinkling sandalwood water before they are pulled by the devotees back to Srimandir.
Before leaving, the Trinity waits a bit at Mausi Maa temple as is the custom and are offered poda pitha, a special sweet made of rice, jaggery, coconuts and lentils and they will start their journey for Puri Srimandir.
After having Poda Pitha, Lord Balabhadra’s chariot is now being pulled by the devotees towards Srimandir. As per ritual on Bahuda Yatra, the deities, before entering the Srimandir, halt in front of the Srimandir in their respective chariots as devotees line-up for their darshan.
The chariots of Balabhadra and Subhadra are parked at Lion’s gate (Singha dwara) of the temple while the chariot of Lord Jagannath will halt in front of the main temple.
While the chariots are waiting, Goddess Lakshmi (Lord Jagannath’s wife) is supposed to steal a glimpse of Lord Jagannaths’ chariot from the Chahani Mandapa (viewing pavilion). According to belief, Goddess Lakshmi will be carried by the temple servitors in a palanquin to Lord Jagannath’s chariot as requested by the goddess.
The Goddess will offer her husband a garland as a token of her love which the Lord will happily accept. She will then head to the temple and wait for the Lords’ return.
Meanwhile, elaborate arrangements have been made for the devotees by the district administration to ensure smooth conduct of Bahuda Jatra of the deities.
