Bolangir, Dec 17 (LocalWire): A 12-hour bandh called in demand of a separate Koshal state disrupted normal life in western Odisha on Monday.
As many as 11 districts of the region – Bolangir, Bargarh, Boudh, Koraput, Deogarh, Jharsuguda, Kalahandi, Nuapada, undergarh, Sambalpur and Sonepur are observing a dawn-to-dusk ‘Koshal Mahabandh’ to press their demand for separate statehood.
Agitators were seen picketing from early morning braving the rains under the impact of Cyclone Pethai.
“It is a bandh for the soil, for 2 crore people of the region, and against government apathy towards the region. We demand a special Koshal state,” said an activist from Bolangir.
Government offices, business establishments and educational institutions remained closed on Monday, while vhicular movement was also hit.
However, railway and other emergency services are available.
