Berhampur, Jan 31 (LocalWire) The red rebels on Thursday blockaded roads at several places across tribal dominated Kandhamal district in response to Bharat Bandh call given by the Communist Party of India(CPI)-Maoist.
The banned organization also put up several banners and posters appealing to people to support the country-wide bandh to protest against the central government’s policy towards to the ultras.
Maoists blockaded the roads by uprooting trees at Sapanalia on Durgapanga-Bandapipili road in Kotagarh police station limits and Mundabaji on Daringibadi-Baliguda road in Daringibadi police station limits.
The banner and posters were put up by the Bansadhara-Nagabali and Ghumusara (BNG) division of the CPI (Maoist).
The ultras also demanded release of arrested Maoists.
However, police personnel are yet to reach the spots to clear the roads, sources said.
“We have to follow the Standard Operation Procedure (SOP) to reach the spots,” said a senior police officer.
Road communication was disrupted due to the blockade.
Maoists have called a country-wide bandh on the last day of celebration of the week-long protest week, stated from January 25.
There was no untoward incident reported during the period, said police.
Meanwhile, security forces intensified anti-Maoist operations at several vulnerable areas of the district, police said.
“We have also strictly kept vigil on the movements of the red rebels,” said the police officer.
