Bhubaneswar, May 25 (Local Wire): A liquor shop in Bapuji Nagar was opened on Monday and started over the counter sales of the spirit against the established rules of lockdown.
As soon as the local wine shop opened a lot of desperate spirit enthusiasts lined up for procuring their set of alcohol from the shop as most of other shops are closed for more than two months.
The shop had arranged special queue system and also marked circles to maintain social distancing but the influx of more crowd seemed to violate the social distancing norm.
As soon as the matter came to light, the local administration intervened and closed down the shop and also seized the vehicles of people who lined to get the liquor which was in violation of lockdown 4.0 rules.
The state government recently had allowed online sales of liquor and home delivery but prohibited over the counter sales.
Different liquor traders associations of the state have now been demanding allowing them to do over the counter sales too.
The traders cite lack of revenues from online sales besides their previous losses due to lockdown and piled up government taxes which they said are unable to be met if over the counter sales are not allowed.
