Bhubaneswar, November 3 (LocalWire) Bargadias@Bhubaneswar, a forum of people from Bargarh district who reside in the state capital, celebrated ‘Nuakhai Bhet’ here on Sunday.
More than 150 families attended the cultural meet rejoicing the essence of Nuakhai, the most prominent agrarian festival of western Odisha.
Apart from exchanging ‘Nuakhai Juhar,’ the revelers danced to the tunes of traditional musical instruments such as dhol, tabla and mandal.
Some amateur and professional folk artist groups from Bargarh also performed on the occasion.
Issues confronted by Bargarh district such as excessive use of pesticides causing cancer and need for preventive steps for the same were discussed during the event.
Western Odisha Development Council chairman Subash Chauhan, a native of Bargarh district who also attended the programme, lauded the initiative.
“It is heartening to note that people of our Bargarh have such fellow feeling among them and concern for Bargarh,” Chauhan said.
“We have been celebrating the event for the fourth year in a row in an informal setting,” said Suhas Hota, one of the key organisers.
Former Bargarh MP Pravas Singh, film actor Prithviraj Nayak, journalist Ashok Pradhan, REC limited state head Surendra Pradhan, among several other Bargarh natives attended the meet.
