Berhampur, Nov 20 (LocalWire): Berhampur Development Authority (BeDA) has decided to close the City bus stand, well known as New bus-stand for renovation from 26 November for two months, the vice chairman of the civic body Chakravarti Singh Rathore said today.
All passenger buses will use the Berhampur bus stand at Haladiapadara, in the outskirt of the town during this period.
‘The City bus stand could not be renovated due to heavy vehicular movement.
Keeping the interest of public in mind we decided to close the bus stand and renovate it,’ Rathore said in a public notice.
He said BeDA will spend around Rs 97 lakhs for the renovation.
Around 200 private buses operate from the city bus-stand to different routes.
‘We will hold a meeting to decide BeDA’s decision,’ said a private bus owner.
Berhampur bus stand at Haladiapadara did not function for the last three years due to the strong opposition of private bus owners’ association who refused to go that far.
Now, the buses belonging to state-owned Odisha State Road Transport Corporation (OSRTC) and other state government buses ply from the new bus-stand at Haladiapadara.
