Berhampur, Oct 3 (LocalWire): Pothole-ridden roads and unfinished drains have added misery to the residents of Berhampur, the biggest commercial hub of southern Odisha, especially during the monsoon season.
The road infrastructure has deteriorated in several areas due to the laying of the pipelines under Janibili water supply projects, while construction work of a nearly 2.6-km long drain in Prem Nagar and Andhapasara Road, undertaken about three years ago, under Odisha Disaster Recovery Project (ODRP) – the World Bank funded project, is yet to be completed.
Residents of the different areas vented their grievances on Saturday while MP (Berhampur) Chandra Sekhar Sahu, MLA (Berhampur) Bikram Kumar Panda along with commissioner, Berhampur Municipal (BeMC) Siddheswar Baliram Bondare inspected the drain and road works in different areas of the Silk City.
“We have visited some of the problematic areas in the city and discussed the problems with the local residents,” said MP (Berhampur).
“We have asked the BeMC authorities to take up some of the works to solve the water-logging and overflowing of the drains works on a priority basis.
Similarly, we have also asked them to direct the contractor to repair the potholes and broken roads in the city,” he said.
“We asked the BeMC authorities to take up the development of Agula Bandha, one of the major water bodies and the cremation grounds at First Gate and Goshaninuagaon,” he added.
