Berhampur, Feb 10 (LocalWire) The Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC) has begun the night sweeping in the silk city to avoid sweeping in the day time, officials said Sunday.
In the first phase, the night sweepings are being done in the market areas, bus-stands and streets from February 8 to 15.
The next phase will be introduced in the residential areas from February 15 to 29.
From March 1 onwards, the night sweeping would be carried out in all the areas of all ULBs, including BeMC, District Collector Vijay Amruta Kulange said.
All the streets of the ULBs will be cleaned during night hours, before people wake up so that the residents of the towns wake up to clean roads and streets.” he added.
Sweeping might start around 9.30 p.m., after the closure of the market, he said.
However, the vehicles which pressed for door to door collection of garbage in the urban areas, would collect the garbage as usual in the morning hours.
The collector added that the “zero sweeping mission” will be incorporated with the 100% distribution of blue and green proper sized dustbins as per the usage with adequate capacity in every household and commercial establishment which can store garbage (solid and liquid) for 24 hours.
The BeMC commissioner Chakravarti Singh Rathore informed LocalWire that they have already introduced the night sweeping on the main roads and market areas since Saturday night.
The last two days were experimental as the Collector and the Commissioner supervised the work. In the coming days, more areas of the city will be covered under the night sweeping.
