Berhampur, October 4 (LocalWire): The Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC) has launched its online tax collection system to enable residents pay their holding tax directly with a click of the button.
“The online facility has been made live after a month-long trial during which the BeMC sought feedback from the citizens,” BeMC commissioner Chakravarti Singh Rathore said.
The system can be accessed through the online service menu on the website of the civic body berhampur.gov.in, he stated.
“It will be easy for the residents to pay their taxes without going to the tax collector’s office. Taxpayers can now pay their dues on time and also reduce the manual work,” he said.
However, the residents can still pay the tax through the single window counter of the BeMC.
A property owner will receive an SMS on the registered mobile number as soon as the tax is deposited, while a printed receipt will be given on the spot.
The new system also allows people to apply for holding numbers online.
After the owner fills up and submits the prescribed forms, including the name and location, the tax collector will reach the house and provide the holding number to the residents.
The online system was launched in the presence of Berhampur BeMC commissioner Chakravarti Singh Rathore , Berhampur MLA Bikram Panda and district collector-cum BeMC administrator Vijay Amruta Kulange.
According to BeMC commissioner, the Corporation would scrap the manual system of tax collection in a phased manner.
