Berhampur, August 31 (LocalWire): Celebrating the Local Self Government Day on Saturday, the Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC) officials today laid foundation stones of projects worth over Rs two crore here.
The projects include two vending zones at different places, an open fish market at the Gate Bazar area, recreation club at Gajapati Nagara and three digital display boards.
Similarly, BeMC authorities also lay the foundation stones for two Sulabha Souchalayas, one at Goilundi and another near the railway station to mark the day.
Berhampur MP Chandra Sekhar Sahu, MLA Bikram Panda, Ganjam district collector Vijay Amruta Kulange, BeMC commissioner Chakravarti Singh Rathore and several former corporators attended the day’s celebration and the foundation laying function.
Named as ‘I am Berhampur’, the LED screens will be utilised to disseminate the message of the civic body and government schemes, as well as private sector advertisements, sources said.
“Construction of a Sulabaha Souchalaya near Railway station was a long-standing demand, as rail passengers who get down at Berhampur have no such facility outside the station. This will help basically to the train passengers,” Berhampur MLA Panda said.
Addressing a brief function Sahu sought the cooperation of the local people to make Berhampur a clean, developed and smart city.
