Berhampur, Feb 16 (LocalWire) An Area Level Federation (ALF) and City Level Federation (CLF), federations of Self Help Groups (SHGs) of Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC) bagged first and third positions respectively at “Swachhata Excellence Award-2018-19.
The awards were presented by the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.
Sapatha Area Level Federation (ALF) and Agrata CLF of Berhampur have received cash award Rs 2 lakh and Rs 1.59 lakh respectively at a function held at New Delhi on Friday.
Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MH&UA) Durga Shankar Mishra presented the awards to officials of federations at a function.
According to the sources, 28 ALFs and four CLFs across the country were selected for the awards this year.
Of them, one CLF (Berhampur) and two ALF (Berhampur and Balesore) received the awards for their involvement in various cleanliness and sanitation initiatives along with Urban Livelihood Mission (ULM).
“We are very happy as out group stood first in the country,” said Geeta Behera, president of Sapatha ALF.
The ALF was working in Haradakhandi area of the city.
“We are very happy as our federation got the award,” said Swagatika Sahu, vice chairperson of Agarata City Level Federation (CLF).
“The award is a token of recognition of our hard work,” said Anita Majhi, secretary of the federation.
“The members have actively participated in many cleanliness and open defection free awareness initiatives, while maintaining 40 community based toilets in different areas of the city,” said Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC) commissioner Chakravarti Singh Rathore.
Berhampur was the first corporation in Odisha to be declared Open Defecation Free (ODF) on October 2.
